The anime series was met with overwhelmingly positive reception upon its release, scoring a near-perfect 96% on review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, with Adam Symchuk of MovieWeb declaring it “the revenge story you need to see.”

“The depiction of violence and sexuality paints an honest picture of the era’s potential brutality and injustice. That’s a key appeal for the animated series, and the intensity of these moments is gripping given how well-written the revenge story is. It’s undoubtedly cathartic release to see Mizu take down all the enemies, but the tension ensures that these aren’t just empty bursts of violence.”
