New Bad Axe comic book store opens in September

Comics are coming to town with a new local comic book store, BLR Comics. The store is located at 110 East Huron Ave. and is scheduled to have a grand opening on September 1st.

Todd Rowley owns the store with his wife Sara Rowley. They plan to offer used comics, collectibles, cosplay accessories, and diamond art.

Todd said he was excited to start his own business in the heart of the community after living in Bad Axe for the past few years. He explained that his appreciation for the community has grown over time.

“I vacationed here every summer with my family and fell in love with the area,” he said.

Todd’s passion for Bad Axe, Marvel and DC and his desire to be his own boss inspired the company.

“This is something I’ve wanted to do for five years,” he said, “so when I found out there was interest in this area, I took the plunge.”

Since the nearest comic book store was over 50 miles away, the couple found a great business niche in the local comic book collecting community. Their only immediate competitors were online resellers and second-hand shops.

But the Rowleys’ decision to open their store goes beyond their love of comics. BLR Comics also serves as a memorial to Todd’s late grandmother, Bernice Lorine Rowley, the store’s namesake.

With the grand opening date fast approaching, the couple is currently focused on acquiring as many supplies as possible, including trading cards, which are being sold at a special price of $1 per card.
