New Bedford man arrested after shooting at Wareham hotel

A New Bedford man will appear in court Monday on charges including assault, discharge of a firearm within 500 feet of a building, reckless endangerment of children and other charges after he was arrested Saturday night at a Wareham hotel.

On Sunday, Wareham police said they arrested Scott Desimas of New Bedford on Saturday and are holding him on $250,000 bail.

Wareham Police Chief Walter Correia Jr. said officers responded to the area behind the Marriott Town Place Suites shortly after 8 p.m. Saturday after reports of possible gunshots in a marshy area behind the hotel.

After deciding to speak to Desimas about the operation, officers were greeted with three shots through the door to the suspect’s room, according to Police Chief Correia.

Correia said the bullets narrowly missed officers and went through a wall into a pool area where three children and two adults were present.

No one was hit, but Correia added that two people in the pool area saw bullets damaging a wall.

Desimas left the room and was arrested without further incident, according to Correia. He added that a woman and two young children were also in the room with Desimas and were safely escorted out of the room.
