New NYC-area flight arrives in Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – Passengers departing from West Virginia International Yeager Airport have a new option when planning their next vacation.

Breeze Airways has been operating in Charleston since May 2023, but now also offers flights to Newark Liberty National Airport in the New York City metropolitan area.

“We’ve had a great partnership with Breeze Airways so far. This is the first time they’ve entered the New York market in any of New York’s three airports. It shows that the market is working here and we hope they continue to expand,” said Paige Withrow, chief marketing officer at CRW.

Gareth Edmondson-Jones, a spokesman for Breeze Airways, said the Charleston market fits the description of the markets the company wants to expand into.

“What’s special about Breeze is that we look for opportunities that other airlines don’t offer.”

Flights from Yeager to Newark begin on November 14, with dates available around the weekend when traffic is highest.

“The flights to Newark started on Thursdays and Sundays, but when those are full, we add Friday and Monday and grow from there,” said Edmondson-Jones.

Although there is no direct connection from Newark Airport to New York City, you can get there quickly using public transportation.

The new location will allow people to travel further. “Newark is a huge hub with over 1,000 flights a day from over 30 airlines, so our passengers have plenty of room to take that flight and transfer somewhere else,” Withrow said.

Charleston has been flying to the New York area for 11 years now, and Breeze Airways hopes to make this a long-term destination from Yeager Airport.

Flights to Newark are available year-round and Breeze Airways is offering a promotion where you can get 35% off any flight until August 9th.
