New Order dominates a chart with a series of their biggest hits

New Order helped bring synthpop to the masses several decades ago, and audiences still listen to their stylized version of the genre today. The band scored dozens of hits in their native Britain after their breakthrough, and some of those songs are still popular.

The group has returned to some charts in the UK in a big way this week, with New Order taking up 5% of all available spots in the country, according to a sales statistic, as two songs return, joining three others that already did well enough last time to find a place in the rankings.

New Order occupies five places on the 100-place official physical singles chart. The band’s catalogue has seen a surge on physical media recently as fans flock to support the legendary band and push them back into the weekly ranks.

“Blue Monday” is New Order’s highest-charting single on the official physical singles chart this year. The tune is a signature of the synthpop pioneers and remains perhaps their best-known song. This week, the hit shoots up from number 27 to number 9, returning to the top 10.

Two other titles from the same group also enjoy impressive success. “True Faith” shoots up from number 64 to number 16, moving closer to the top of the list. Former hit “The Perfect Kiss” climbs from number 96 to number 51 in the official Physical Singles charts this week.

Two more New Order singles return this time with the same lineup. “Sub-Culture” returns and lands at number 53, while “Shellshock” reappears at number 81.

All five singles mentioned have previously been in the top 10 of the official physical singles chart. Only one single, “Blue Monday”, has managed to reach the top. It is also the longest charting single of the series, having now occupied 225 places on the list. No other track of the five has managed to stay in triple figures.
