The design of the next-generation Toyota Fortuner has been leaked just ahead of the global launch of the new SUV. Recently, images of the new Fortuner were leaked and now its further details are also revealed. The new Fortuner will have two engines, a 2.4-litre with 4×2 option (six-speed manual and six-speed automatic), while the 2.8-litre engine will have a six-speed automatic with 4×2 and 4×4 options and the six-speed manual of the larger engine will be 4×4.
The new Fortuner will have paddle shifters, touchscreen system, keyless entry, push start and stop, power tailgate, reverse camera and many more features. The Fortuner will be launched in India sometime next year and will replace the currently sold Fortuner. Toyota plans to increase the localization of the Fortuner in India for the new generation to justify the higher price.
The 2.4-litre engine will produce 148 bhp and the 2.8-litre engine will produce 175 bhp. Toyota is looking to sell the Fortuner not only in Asia and the Gulf countries but also in other western markets. The Fortuner will compete with the Ssangyong Rexton, Hyundai Santa Fe, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Ford Endeavour and the upcoming Chevrolet Trailblazer. The Toyota Fortuner will cost INR 2.7-3.2 million (on-road).
