Sergio Aragones Original art for 1972 Poster for the New York Comic Art Convention will be auctioned on Heritage Auctions in September, as part of their Comics & Comic Art Signature Auction takes place from 12 to 15 September.
The printed poster is quite rare, which makes the original artwork even more desirable.
Aragonés had an incredible cast of characters, including many hidden cameos (including Alfred E. Neuman). Who can you spot?
Sergio Aragonesnow 86, is a celebrated cartoonist and author who is best known for his contributions to MAD Magazine. He is best known for his series of wordless “long-winded dramas.” He also created the comic series Groo the Wanderera mixture of humor and sword and sorcery.
The International Sergio Aragonés Prize for Excellence in Comic Artwhich was previously awarded to cartoonist Posy Simmonds, and the adult humor magazine VIZ was awarded in his name by the National Cartoonists Society.
The auction lists over 700 works of art, including art by Charlie Adlard, Brian Bolland, John Byrne, Richard Corben, Steve Ditko, Dave Gibbons, Will Eisner, Lee Elias, Glenn Fabry, Gil Kane, Jack Kirby, Joe Kubert, Jim Lee, David Lloyd, Frank Miller, Alex Ross, Barry Windsor-Smith, Bill Watterson, Wally Wood and Bernie Wrightson, to name a few.

Done in ink on 22″ x 30″ illustration board. Signed and dated with a self-portrait in the lower right corner. All text is stenciled. The piece is toned and in good condition.

The founder of downthetubes, which he founded in 1998. John works as a comic and magazine editor, writer and in promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He is currently editor of Star Trek: Explorerspublished by Titan – his third activity with the originally titled Star Trek Magazine.
He has worked in British comics publishing since the 1980s and has edited titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazineand more. He was also editor of the comic anthology STRIP Magazine and has edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic book collections, including the volumes “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.
He is the author of Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies for B7 Comics, Crucible, an original project with 2000AD artist Smuzz, and Death Duty and Skow Dogs with Dave Hailwood.
