Here is a recent NFL story:

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers overcame a slow start to lead a well-executed touchdown drive during a two-minute practice, and the Carolina Panthers appear to have avoided two key injuries during a heated joint practice Thursday.

After throwing two interceptions to start the practice, Rodgers returned to form on the Jets’ final offensive possession, completing three passes before getting defensive pass interference on a long ball to Garrett Wilson. On the next play, Rodgers capped the drive with a short touchdown pass to Wilson.

“We started slow, which shouldn’t happen, but you have to find a way to recover and finish strong, and I think we did that,” said Wilson, who was targeted three times on the touchdown drive. “I think we got better today.”

The Panthers suffered a scare when guard Robert Hunt, who came to Carolina as a free agent from Miami after signing a five-year, $100 million contract, apparently suffered a knee injury early in practice and was wheeled to the sidelines.

But Hunt returned to finish the training.

Later, Panthers running back Chuba Hubbard was involved in a collision with Jets safety Chuck Clark after slipping on the turf and taking a violent hit. He remained on the field for several minutes holding his knee.

“We had a lot of concerns when Chuba went down, but the early tests were pretty good,” Panthers coach Dave Canales said of Hubbard, who did not return to practice. “So they’ll continue from there.”

Miles Sanders and Mike Boone received additional assignments as running backs after Hubbard was out.

Shortly after the teams began 11-on-11 drills, things got heated.

Panthers wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr., a 2021 second-round pick battling for a roster spot, caught a touchdown pass in the corner of the end zone on a fade route over DJ Reed and celebrated by dropping the ball on the Jets cornerback’s head while he was still on the ground, prompting an unsportsmanlike conduct flag and sparking a shoving match between Panthers offensive players and Jets defenders.

As coaches stepped in to break up the fight, Reed stood up, picked up the football and threw it at the back of a Carolina player, after which he threw the flag again.

Before the end of the two-hour training session, there were two more short confrontations.

“That’s stupid football,” Canales said of Marshall’s penalty. “We can’t let that happen. We want to celebrate together. We want to make big moves and not give the opposition anything. That’s exactly the kind of thing I accused them of, especially before this training session. He made a great move against a great player, but he has to leave it at that.”

Jets coach Robert Saleh spoke to reporters before practice, but was not available to the public afterward.

Marshall said he was swept away by the moment.

“That’s not my character,” Marshall said. “I feel like I give everything on the field. But I definitely wouldn’t do that in a game. I wouldn’t do anything that would hurt the team.”

Rodgers, who did not speak to reporters after practice, went a perfect 4 of 4 on the final drive, leading the Jets quickly down the field with the help of a defensive pass interference penalty against cornerback D’Shawn Jamison.

“Aaron is one of the best players ever in that situation,” Wilson said. “(Number) eight makes it pretty easy for us out there as far as two-minute drills go. He has a great process and it’s our job (as receivers) to pay attention to our details.”

Panthers second-year quarterback Bryce Young looked solid after throwing two interceptions during practice on Wednesday.

“Today he came out and was sharp, he got us in and out of the fray and he was precise, and that’s Bryce,” Canales said. “When he’s challenged and the stakes get higher, that’s who he is, he just stays the same and he continues to be precise. I love the way he handled it today.”

The teams will play a warm-up match on Saturday evening. None of the coaches would say whether they want to use their regular players.

NOTES: Panthers cornerback Dane Jackson (hamstring) is expected to miss six weeks and safety Xavier Woods (groin) will miss a few weeks due to injuries sustained in practice earlier this week, Canales said. There are also concerns that reserve offensive lineman Chandler Zavala could miss some time after suffering a hamstring injury Thursday.
