NFL insider predicts great season for Yaya Diaby

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a thin roster of edge rushers—that much is known. However, the roster could still form a solid unit if a certain player has a good year, and NFL Network’s Peter Schrager expects that to happen in 2024.

Schrager reviewed his list of 10 prospects for the 2024 season on NFL’s Good Morning Football, and one Buccaneers player made the top five, coming in at No. 4. Schrager’s pick for the position is outside linebacker Yaya Diaby, who recorded 7.5 sacks in his rookie season last year.

“What are you doing this season? Here’s my bold guess: Yaya Diaby will have 15 sacks this season,” Schrager said. “One of my favorite players. Calijah Kancey, also a draft pick last year, works inside, Vita Vea works inside and of course you have Yaya (Diaby) … Yaya Diaby is a breakout player.”

Diaby hasn’t practiced recently after suffering an ankle injury in training camp, but luckily it was just a high ankle sprain and he’s expected to be fit in time for Tampa Bay’s Week 1 game against the Washington Commanders. As Schrager said, Diaby could also benefit from having help from Calijah Kancey and Vita Vea in the pass rush this year.

The Buccaneers will likely see Diaby on the field when they face the Commanders and rookie Jayden Daniels in Week 1 of the NFL season on September 8.
