FLAG changed at Akal Takht

Amritsar: In accordance with the directive of the Akal Takht to amend the Color the Nishan Sahib (Sikh flag) issued at GurdwarasShiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) made the changes and replaced the colours which are in accordance with the Sikh Rehat Maryada (religious code). On Friday morning SGPC changed the colour of Nishan Sahib at Akal Takht from ‘kesri’ to ‘basanti’, after which other colours of the Nishan Sahib were also changed. According to Sikh Rehat Maryada, “The fabric of the flag should be either xanthic (yellowish) or grey-blue (surmai) and there should be either a spearhead or a khanda on the top of the flagpole.” But as time went by, people started changing the shades of the Nishan Sahib, which raised objections. On July 15, the Sikh high priests requested the SGPC to clear the confusion regarding the colour of the flag, after which the SGPC issued the order.
