NKYEC seeks individual tutors to help elementary school students with reading

School is starting up again and the Northern Kentucky Education Council is preparing to support young readers with its One to One Reading program.

Reading at grade level by 3rd grade is a critical factor in a child’s future academic success.

One to One provides a cadre of volunteers to assist over 190 students at 24 elementary schools in Northern Kentucky with learning to read and helping them gain confidence in their reading skills.

Call for volunteers

One to One recruits parents, grandparents, business leaders and community volunteers as one-on-one reading coaches.

• The trainers meet with the same student once a week for about 35 minutes
during the school day from September to May.

• Trainers are required to attend a FREE five-hour personal training session to learn specific strategies for supporting young readers.

• Trainers receive materials and accessories to use during weekly training sessions.

• Coaches are offered opportunities for ongoing professional development throughout the year.
