Notice for pilots in Tehran until August 14

Iran has issued a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) for planned firing exercises in the airspace over Tehran until August 14, the US NOTAM service reported on Saturday evening.

The flight ban applies to the OID29 area in Tehran.

The firing exercises are scheduled to take place daily between 04:30 and 14:30 UTC from 11 to 14 August 2024.

According to the alert, the exercises will take place from ground level up to an altitude of 10,000 feet above mean sea level (AMSL).

All pilots are advised to avoid the area during these times.

On August 5, Iran had already issued a NOTAM alerting aircraft to dangers on their way to the center, west and northwest of the country.

Tensions in the region lead to warnings to pilots

On August 7, Egypt ordered all airlines to avoid Iranian airspace for a three-hour period in the early morning between 01:00 and 04:00 GMT. No further details of the NOTAM were given. An Egyptian official was quoted by state-run Al Qahera News TV as saying that Iranian authorities had said to avoid flights into Iranian airspace because of “military exercises.”

“Based on a report from the Iranian authorities to all civil aviation companies, flights over Iranian airspace should be avoided,” the unnamed official was quoted as saying.

Britain has issued NOTAM warnings to pilots flying over Beirut until November, Iran International reported last week.
