Numerous Australian comic artists come to Shanghai

A whirlwind of Australian comics and a magnificent sculpture of a koala mascot will land in Shanghai, the birthplace of modern comics in China.

ACE! Australian Comic Exhibition, which runs until September 16, features works by 20 talented artists from Australia, where the art of cartooning dates back to the 19th century and the Australian Cartoonists Association is one of the oldest cartooning organizations in the world.

The exhibition aims to showcase the creativity and diversity of Australian culture, reflected in the wide range of content and styles of the participating artists through their unique perspectives and creative materials.

Participating cartoonists include Tim McEwen, winner of the Platinum Award of the Australian Cartooning Awards, Jakub Mazerant, curator of the exhibition and also winner of the Platinum Award, Marcelo Baez, a well-known professional comic artist who has worked for Marvel, Apple and Time Inc., and several other popular Australian artists, including Chinese-Australian creators.

Australian Cartooning Awards Bronze Award winner Ben Mitchell designed the exhibition’s mascot, Casey the koala, and will fly with Mazerant from Sydney to Shanghai to open the exhibition.

The exhibition has already toured Europe and Asia, and Shanghai will be its second stop in China following the exhibition in January in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province.
