Oasis fans outraged as hotel chain cancels bookings and resells rooms at three times the price

Oasis fans are outraged after a hotel chain was accused of cancelling bookings for the band’s tour dates in Manchester, only to then resell the rooms at three times the price.

Several customers have received emails apparently from Maldron Hotels claiming that their booking could not be successfully completed due to a technical error and that they should accept a cancellation request.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Sacha Lord, the city’s night-time economy adviser, weighed in, writing: “Hey @MaldronHotels. I’m being contacted by several people who booked your hotel for the Oasis concert. They tell me their rooms have just been cancelled and are now available again for three times the price. I’m sure it’s a ‘computer glitch’… easily fixed. Do the right thing.”

Discussing the situation, one person responded: “Cancelling a booking out of greed is disgraceful but lying around while you’ve cancelled the booking is morally disgraceful and corrupt,” while another person added: “For a few quid @MaldronHotels are destroying their reputation. Shocking. I will be avoiding them completely in the future. Anyone else feel this way?” A third person added: “Absolutely scandalous, pure profiteering rather than providing a service to guests who have already booked.”

In a statement, Maldron Hotels explained the situation: “Due to a technical error in our booking system on 26 and 27 August, significantly more rooms were booked than were available for the nights of the Oasis concerts on 11, 12, 19 and 20 July 2025 at Maldron Hotel Manchester City and Maldron Hotel Cathedral Quarter.

“As a result, we are unable to accommodate all bookings for these dates and are actively speaking with customers regarding their bookings. Hotels are not currently accepting bookings while we investigate the issue. This is not an attempt to resell rooms at inflated prices, but an overbooking issue due to a technical error in our booking systems.

“Due to the same technical error, a few customers were also able to book rooms later in the evening at a higher price. We are also unable to accommodate these bookings. All bookings made before August 26th will be accepted. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience.”

Oasis will play at Heaton Park in Manchester in 2025 on July 11, 12, 19 and 20, after a 15-year hiatus due to a rift between brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher.

The press release announcing the exciting news stated: “There was no great revelation that sparked the reunion – just the gradual realization that the time was right. But the timing must have been a subconscious influence.”
