Obituary for Barry Harr (1953 – 2024) – Ligonier, PA

Barry Edwin Harr, 70, of Ligonier, left us suddenly to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 22, 2024. Barry was born December 14, 1953 in Ligonier, PA to Eleanor (Umbaugh) Crawford. He graduated from Ligonier Valley High School in 1971. Barry earned an associate degree from Triangle Tech in 1990. He worked as an assembly technician at the former Volkswagen plant, co-owned (with his wife) Big Pap’s Family Restaurant, as an assembly technician at the Sony plant, and at Ligonier Valley Real Estate, Howard Hanna, Berkshire Hathaway, Inc. He currently served as the pastor of Ligonier Valley Bible Church. Above all, Barry was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His love for Jesus, his church, and his family made him the best possible role model to everyone he met. Barry loved golf. He was ready to meet the Lord when he fulfilled his dream of beating his son-in-law Keith in a 9-hole golf match on August 8, 2024. Barry loved to spend his days basking in the sun at the beach or by the pool. His favorite color was yellow. He was an avid sports fan and was always cheering on the Steelers and AlabamaRoll Tide! He also enjoyed playing bingo with his sister Patty. He was a very “inventive” Scrabble player. His grandchildren were his greatest joy. Barry is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of nearly 35 years, Carolyn (Turnbull) Harr; his sons Brian Harr of Uniontown and Donald Thiel of Ligonier; his daughters Jennifer Forrest (Clint) of Gap, PA and Heather Straka (Keith) of Latrobe; his grandchildren Dominick, Jesse, Sydney, Wyatt, Henry and Shepherd. Barry also leaves behind three siblings: his twin brother Larry (Debbie) Harr, Patty (Jeff) Berkey, and Tim (Barb) Harr. He had many loving nieces and nephews and a wonderful church community. He was predeceased by his parents, Eleanor and Frank Crawford. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Barry’s life at the Snyder-Green Funeral Home, 402 E Church St., Ligonier, Pennsylvania 15658. A viewing will be held on Sunday, August 25, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 26, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the Ligonier Camp and Conference Center, 188 McCartney Lane, Ligonier, PA 15658, with John Johnson and Rev. Wendell Bishop officiating. Interment will be private in the Ligonier Valley Cemetery. To plant trees in remembrance, please visit the Sympathy Store.
