Welty T. Piper Sr., 95, of Jeannette, formerly of Derry, died Friday, August 23, 2024, at his home surrounded by loved ones. He was born October 17, 1928, in Cook Township to the late Wilson H. and Carrie Musnug Piper. Welty was a self-employed truck driver and had retired from Latrobe Die Casting. He was a man who enjoyed tinkering, was a jack of all trades, and had an interest in motorcycles and automobiles. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, E. Louise Hofmann Piper, his brother, Ralph H. Piper, his sisters, Emma Wright, Jenny Griffin and Anna Gunter Rice, and one granddaughter, Amber Piper. He is survived by his son, Tom Piper (Paula), of Jeannette, and two grandchildren, Paul Piper (Samantha) and Faith Sobol (Gordon); and four great-grandchildren, Madalin and Paul Piper Jr., Sydney, and Eli Sobol (Dad’s special buddy). Friends will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at MCCABE FUNERAL HOME, 300 W. Third Ave., Derry. Burial will follow in Bethel Church Cemetery.
