Bids can be placed starting this Sunday at the annual online auction to benefit the Cape Coral Animal Shelter.

The Cape Coral Animal Shelter’s third consecutive online auction will run from August 18th to August 23rd at 4:00 p.m. Community members can bid on a variety of prizes and items, all of which will benefit the shelter, its operations and the welfare of its animals.

“Last year we raised $40,000 and we hope to exceed that amount this year,” said CCAS Executive Director Liz McCauley. “The money raised goes directly to the care of the animals we take in. These animals often come to us with thousands of dollars in medical care. Most have had none in their lives. Some are heartworm positive and many are sick or need surgery. The majority need to be spayed or neutered. All proceeds from the auction go to their medical expenses because they all deserve a second chance and a permanent home.”

Donated items are displayed online and supporters have the opportunity to bid on various items through a secure online platform.

CCAS officials said several local businesses and individuals have stepped forward to help the shelter. Bidders can view the link on the CCAS website, social media and through shared links throughout the community.

“We are very grateful to the many companies and individuals who donated to our auction and have some fantastic items,” said McCauley. “We really couldn’t do our work without the continued support of our shelter from so many people in the community. We have an amazing committee of volunteers who scour the area, solicit donations and help organize all of the items – which is a huge undertaking. We couldn’t hold this auction without their help.”

McCauley said the auction will include everything from exquisite jewelry and health and beauty items to beautiful artwork from local artists and, of course, pet-themed items. Her favorite auction items include experience packages from local attractions like Downtown Fort Myers, The Westin of Cape Coral, Margaritaville and Fisherman’s Village in Punta Gorda. There are handcrafted, one-of-a-kind treasures, spa packages and one-of-a-kind getaways – all of which can be bid on from a computer or phone. All proceeds from this virtual fundraiser will benefit the Cape Coral Animal Shelter, which cares for over 100 animals in its care every day.

“The impact is immense,” said McCauley. “We have seen a significant increase in the number of unwanted and abandoned animals over the last year, and donations have declined overall. This auction is a great opportunity for us to showcase local businesses and individuals while raising much-needed funds. Plus, you can get some great deals on some great items.”

McCauley added: “We operate at maximum capacity every day, often taking in animals with serious medical conditions, puppies, kittens and older animals that have been abandoned. We are constantly reinventing the way we have always done things to continue to raise enough money to care for our animals. We hope this community will enjoy the auction and continue to support our mission.”

Since opening in March 2020, CCAS has found loving, permanent homes for more than 4,700 unwanted and abandoned animals, and the low-cost clinic provides comprehensive services to over 7,000 clients and their pets.
