This happened after the passenger advised those sitting in the aisle seats to remain alert and awake throughout the flight.

According to the passenger, an exception only exists if the flight is a long-haul flight lasting seven hours or more.

The reason for this is that passengers in the middle and window seats have access to the toilet, can be served by the flight crew and can be quickly evacuated in the event of an emergency.

The Reddit user wrote: “A person sitting in an aisle seat on an airplane should not be allowed to sleep.”

“There are some exceptions and these probably apply to all flights lasting longer than seven hours.

“But if the time is shorter, you should not sleep. What if the middle or window passenger needs to go to the toilet or if the flight crew needs to hand them something – you will be in the way.”

The Reddit user didn’t hold back, claiming that in the event of an emergency, a sleeping passenger in an aisle seat could potentially delay evacuation, putting everyone at risk.

They added: “Now you would be risking people’s lives because you fell asleep.”

And it was at that very moment that the online airwaves were ablaze as social media users flocked to share their thoughts.

One user countered: “Nah, just nudge me and wake me up if you want me to get up or do something else.”

“I’m well aware that I’m in the way, believe me. I’m certainly not there because I wanted to sit in the aisle seat.”

Another said: “If you sleep in an aisle seat, you have to expect that people will get up. It’s an unwritten rule.”

One disgruntled commenter joked: “My shoulders are so broad they hang way over both armrests.

“Trust me, brother, I’m doing you a favor by sitting in the aisle seat.

“Now be quiet and let me go back to sleep before I book the middle seat on every flight for the rest of my life in the hope that one day you will have to sit next to me.”

Meanwhile, some users support the idea, albeit with a modification.

One user said: “My take on this: If you sleep in the aisle seat, you don’t have to mind being woken up several times so that the people in your row can get up.

“Other flight rules: The middle seat gets an armrest and the window seat has to pull up the window blind during taxiing, takeoff and landing so that the rest of us in the row can watch.”

While the debate rages on, one thing is clear: people have strong opinions about where and how they like to sit on an airplane.

The most sought-after seats on the plane were determined in a survey by Upgraded Points among 3,100 US travelers.

The best options have been identified for those who want to optimize their flight experience.

Among the seats on the 737-800 aircraft, five emerged as clear favorites, with seat 1A at the top of the list.

This first-class seat at the front of the aircraft was preferred by 5.96 percent of travelers due to the larger legroom and easy access to the exit.

This makes it the ultimate choice for those who like to stretch out and be the first to get off the plane.

Other favorites included seats 7F, 7A, 1F and 7C, which offer similar benefits such as more space and less disruption.

Whether you prefer to stare out the window, take a nap in the aisle, or sit on the armrest of the middle seat, one thing is certain: everyone has their own rules when it comes to flying.

So next time you’re on a plane, choose your seat carefully and maybe think twice before dozing off in the aisle seat.

The worst passengers you can have to deal with

A flight attendant has revealed which passengers are the worst to deal with on the plane. Here is her statement:

Drunk passengers

“People who take advantage of alcohol on board are really annoying. We already have a lot to think about on our flights without having to worry about people who have gotten drunk to the point of intoxication.”

“My advice to passengers is to enjoy the included alcohol in moderation.

“If an emergency occurs and you are drunk, you can’t help anyone, least of all yourself, so it’s best to stay alert.”

Mute

“Vaping on board is becoming increasingly popular and it’s ridiculous that people think they can get away with it.

“The big cloud of fruity smoke always gives it away a little.

“But it can also cause panic in the rest of the cabin. Imagine seeing a big cloud of smoke on an airplane? That’s definitely not something you expect and will definitely scare people a little bit.”

Listening to music without headphones

“There are few things worse than tinny telephone music blaring through the airplane cabin or an episode of Breaking Bad being broadcast from a passenger to those around him.

“I always tell people to remember that there are other people on the plane and that not everyone is travelling for the same reason.

“So keep your music and your TV to yourself and think carefully about whether the other people on board want to hear your awful dance music.”
