Police in Garland, Texas, are reporting an increase in copper thefts, some of which are committed in broad daylight.
“There is an increase in copper thefts and the criminals who are committing these crimes are doing so right before your eyes,” Lt. Pedro Barineau said in an X-video posted Tuesday.
Barineau said criminals would “reach for anything,” using pole pruners, hand saws or even power poles.

“These criminals may look official with their safety vests and helmets, but don’t be fooled. They are not official,” Barineau said.
These copper thieves, Barineau said, use unmarked vehicles, which are actually just regular cars, vans or trucks.
These thefts occurred at all hours of the day and night, some even in full view, Barineau said.

“That’s why we urge you to report any suspicious activity. If you see something, say something,” Barineau said.
