Police warn of new scam targeting victims of online financial fraud

State police have issued a public alert about new fraudulent schemes that promise victims of online financial fraud the return of their lost money.

The warning followed reports that a fraudulent organization, allegedly called the All India Legal Services Authority, was targeting fraud victims with misleading offers to return their stolen funds.

Victims of online scams have reported receiving WhatsApp calls or voice messages from people claiming to represent the dubious organization. These scammers promise to recover the entire amount lost to the online scam, but only after the victim pays a registration fee. The scammer then assures the victim that the fee will be charged with GST and that the registration amount along with the lost funds will be refunded within 48 hours.

Police have made it clear that none of these organizations have the authority or ability to recover money lost through online fraud. Officials do not charge fees for the recovery of stolen funds.

The police also urged people who have fallen victim to online financial fraud to immediately report the incident to the police on 1930. Reporting in a timely manner increases the chances of recovering lost funds, it said.
