Pop singer seeks restraining order against ex after he publishes text messages fuelling abuse allegations

After pop singer Kehlani’s ex-wife filed for custody of their five-year-old daughter and accused the star of having mental health issues and joining a cult, new court documents – as well as evidence – have emerged showing both parties accusing each other of abuse and more.

Last week, both the singer and her daughter’s father, Javaughn Young-White, announced on social media that they would not share details and updates about their legal and personal affairs with the public.

But on August 13, TMZ reported that the “Night’s Like This” singer had filed for a restraining order against her daughter’s father because he called her a (swear word) “liar” and they had lured him into a trap.

Court documents obtained by Page Six say the singer has claimed Young-White has been abusive for years, but she decided to seek the restraining order two months ago after he flew into a rage and “bashed down her locked bedroom doors in a fit of rage.” When this happened, he was at the singer’s home with her daughter, Adeya Nomi, the documents say.

During his time at the singer’s home, he smoked marijuana “all day, every day” and took psychedelics, according to court documents. The documents also said he disappeared for extended periods of time and did not take care of his “personal hygiene” and self-care.”

“When he leaves our daughter in his care, she is returned dirty and smelling of marijuana,” the complaint states.

The singer further described his behavior in the filing, writing, “He is not doing well emotionally and appears to suffer from periods of despair and often tirades of uncontrollable anger and rage. When agitated, he cannot stop moving and throws his arms in the air while yelling and screaming at me, often throwing objects and calling me horrible names.”

But when the singer saw TMZ’s report, she posted a statement on Instagram saying, “I have not made a statement nor have I told TMZ about my business.”

Young-White then accused his Kehlani of “blaming me for the abuse” and sent text messages “begging” the singer to leave him alone because “I knew what you were up to.”

“I begged you to leave me alone, I begged you that I didn’t want to talk,” Young-White wrote in one of the messages. “I RAN from your room to the back house. You followed me and burst through the door. I begged you REPEATEDLY that I didn’t want to talk to you. You said ‘YOU NEED TO TALK TO YOUR CO-PARENTS’. I RAN to the bathroom. I said NO I DON’T HAVE TO. PLEASE STOP. I said PLEASE leave me alone. Because I knew what you were going to do. I said I’M PACKING. You KEEP COMING. YOU wanted us to be homeless in the morning.”

He mentioned that he “cut off contact with (Kehlani) last month because of her abuse and because she claims she is abused when she is afraid.”

Young-White added that he believed a private conversation with the “After Hours” singer “would pose a threat to (his) safety due to her ability to lie.”

He also accused her of “accusing her of rape and abuse when she has no other basis” and said he had been “lied to” and “manipulated” for years. He added that when he tried to “leave for good,” he was rebuffed “with violence and anti-black attitudes.”

A judge signed the temporary restraining order, granting the singer sole custody of her daughter until a hearing on September 3, TMZ reported.
