Power outages across ABC13’s broadcast region as storms sweep Virginia

Thousands of people in the ABC13 region are without power due to Tropical Storm Debby. Power companies have been battling outages since early Thursday morning, but as winds picked up in the evening, the number of affected areas grew.

Here is a list of some of the largest areas experiencing power outages, according to Appalachian Power and Danville Utilities.

Lynchburg:

Wyndhurst area

As of 7pm, just over 1,200 people are without power in Wyndhurst. Power is expected to be restored to most of the area by 12:30am.

Boonsboro area

Some smaller outages in the Boonsboro area are affecting some customers. AEP expects about 72 of those outages to be restored by 9 p.m.

Garland Hill area

Several dozen customers on Garland Hill are without power. Restoration time is estimated at 11 p.m.

Rivermont area

In the Rivermont area near Daniels Hill, about 265 customers are without power. AEP estimates power will be restored by 11 p.m. Another nearly 200 customers are without power near Randolph College, which is up the river toward Virginia Episcopal School.

Old Forest Road

About 60 customers are without power in areas off Old Forest Road and Lakeside Drive. Power is expected to be restored by 11 p.m.

Amherst County:

Nearly 100 people are without power in the area between Sweet Briar College and Amherst County High School. Power is expected to be restored by 11 p.m.

In an area near Izaak Walton Park, about 262 people are without power, and in a large area along U.S. 29 through the county, nearly 1,000 people are without power due to a fallen tree.

Just across the James River in Amherst County, about 800 towns are without power. Power is expected to be restored between 8 and 11 p.m.

Campbell County:

According to the United States Power Outage Map, Campbell County has nearly 1,400 customers without power across multiple power providers. The AEP outage map shows several smaller outage zones scattered throughout the county. Dominion Energy’s largest outage zone in the county is in Concord with 413 outages; restoration time is pending.

Martinsville:

Several large power outage zones in the Martinsville area affect hundreds of people, with power expected to be restored in some areas by 3:00 p.m. Friday afternoon.

Pittsburgh County:

A power outage between Museville and Andersons Mill affects 278 customers. Power is expected to be restored around 11 p.m.

Danville:

According to Danville Utilities’ outage map, just over 700 customers are without power in the city and surrounding areas, with no estimated restoration possible.

Patrick County:

Several hundred people are without power in the county, mostly spread across two major outage zones. AEP expects power to be restored to one area near Patrick Springs by 3 p.m. Friday. The other area could have power back by 11 p.m.

Roanoke:

Hundreds of power outages are being reported in the Roanoke area, spread across nearly a dozen smaller outage zones. The largest outage, with over 800 customers without power, is in the Roselawn Road area, not far from Hidden Valley High School. Estimated restoration times vary.
