Power restored for victims of downed power lines on Highway 33 – LocalNews8.com

NEWDALE, Idaho (KIFI) – Power has been restored to the Madison, Fremont and Jefferson County areas.

The Fremont County Emergency Management Agency reports that approximately 80 power poles have fallen along this stretch of Highway 33 from Newdale east.

However, according to local reports, last night’s power outage caused concern for some people.

Brogun Abegglen told Local News 8: “It was boring. There’s no light and then it’s gone… just silence.”

Thousands were affected by the power outage last night.

Friday night plans were canceled, stores had to close early, and dinner plans were ruined.

On Friday, August 23, most people lost power around 5:00 p.m., and many reported that power was not restored until 9:00 a.m. the next morning.

Crew members were up all night trying to repair power lines that had fallen due to gusts of wind.

Even though the power is back on, there is still a lot of work to be done.

The road closure on Highway 33 remains in place and the public is asked to avoid the area.

“If you’re out there and checking, please make yourself useful and stay out of the way of the workers so we can get everything under control and get back to our normal lives,” Trever Abegglen said.

A through-traffic option will be provided for people living along Highway 33.

However, there is no estimated date when the road will reopen.
