MANCHESTER – A motorcyclist had an accident with his Harley Davidson early this morning. Police believe the cause was that he was drunk.

Police said that just before 3:30 a.m. on Aug. 29, 54-year-old Charles Hicks of Lacey was traveling east on Wranglebrook Road. As he turned near Canton Drive, the frame of the motorcycle struck the asphalt. The motorcycle and its rider skidded across the road before coming to a stop.

Hicks was not wearing a helmet and was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River with non-life-threatening injuries. He was charged with drunken driving.

Police warned that there are more motorcycles on the roads during the summer and drivers should be cautious. They also urged all motorcyclists to wear helmets approved by the state Department of Environmental Protection.

Paramedics from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services and Priced Rite Towing responded to the scene. The investigation into this accident is ongoing, however police believe drunk driving was the primary factor. The accident is being investigated by Ptl. Brendan Brush of the department’s Traffic Safety Unit.
