Public schools welcome new staff

The first week of school is always exciting for students as they get to know their teachers, see old friends, and meet new ones.

But the excitement and anticipation of the new school year isn’t just limited to students. New teachers and school administrators feel the same, and this year’s freshmen at Boulder City Public Schools are no exception.

Last week, the Review asked each of the new teachers at their respective schools how they felt there. Here are their answers:

Boulder City High School

Alexis Sharp, Deputy Headteacher: I really enjoy going to this high school because I was born and raised here in Boulder City and I enjoy serving my community.

Erin Igoe, Deputy Principal: I am so happy to be at Boulder City High School. I just moved here from California, so it’s nice to be in such a small, close-knit community.

Clinton Garvin, Jobs for America’s Graduates teacher and wrestling coach: I enjoy being here because I am a graduate of Boulder City High School. I enjoy giving back to the students just like the teachers gave me their time.

Garrett Junior High

Michelle Martens, mathematics, sixth grade: I’m really happy to be here. The kids seem to be doing wonderful so far.

Meagan Hoffman, sixth grade English as a second language teacher: I am very excited to join the Bobcat family and serve our community.

Heidi Marmo, Geometry and Algebra Preparation: I am very happy to be here and I love the kids, the staff and the community.

Sandi Wachtel, learning strategist: I have 30 years of teaching experience and this is the most professional and friendly staff I have ever had the pleasure of working with. The community is very fortunate.

Kim Brugger, Mathematics, English, 6th grade: This school is a wonderful place. The administration is so supportive and caring. It’s such a refreshing change to be here.

Patricia Stroud, seventh and eighth grade English: I am excited to be teaching at Garrett here in Boulder City. My goal is to inspire students to be lifelong learners.

Martha King Elementary School

Deanna Hull, Health Assistant: I am really looking forward to working as a school health assistant.

Alexis Donnelly, teaching assistant: I am very excited to be the new teaching assistant. I really enjoy helping children grow and learn.

Mason Corderman, sports assistant: I am excited to be the new sports assistant and am ready for a new adventure.

Michelle Adams, fourth grade: I’m excited because I love the school and the small town feel of Boulder City.

Mary Maring, teaching assistant: I enjoy working as a third grade aide because I have a daughter in third grade and I enjoy being part of her community.

Brianna Egan, third grade: I am very happy to be able to teach in my hometown.

Sara Fisher, PE: I love being here and helping the children live healthy, happy lives.

Mitchell Elementary School

Ashley Compagnoni, Kindergarten: It has always been my dream to work at Mitchell. I went to kindergarten here and I’m really looking forward to it.

Rayma Aton, Kindergarten: I also went to school here and when I decided to become a teacher, my goal was to stay here and never leave.

Jennifer McNeal, 2nd grade: I’ve been working at Mitchell (in a different capacity) for a few years now and all my kids have gone here, so it was my dream to be here too.

Melissa Samons, 2nd grade: Like the others, it was a dream for me to work here because my children were or are here. I was a substitute teacher for a long time and am now a second grade teacher.
