Purdue’s rankings, media presence and engagement metrics reach new heights nationally and globally

Purdue University’s enhanced national and global profile continues to contribute significantly to record levels of student applications while accelerating the school’s research and industry activities.

Purdue has been among the 10 most innovative universities for six years in a row according to U.S. News & World Report, and 13 of its undergraduate programs were ranked in the top 10 in the U.S. in the 2024 survey. Overall, Purdue also ranks 43rd among 435 U.S. universities, eight spots higher than in 2023 and the highest ranking in the university’s history.

Other rankings and awards that put Purdue in the spotlight:

  • In the QS World University Rankings, Purdue is ranked 8th among public universities in the country and 24th in the U.S. overall in the 2025 survey. Purdue also ranks 89th among 1,500 universities worldwide, up 10 places from 2024.
  • In the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024, Purdue ranks 33rd in the United States and 86th worldwide. Purdue ranks 14th among public universities in the United States and 9th among public land-grant institutions.
  • Purdue ranked 16th on Fast Company’s 2023 list of 50 Most Innovative Companies. And in 2022 and 2023, Purdue was the only university on Fast Company’s Brands That Matter list. These awards recognize organizations for communicating their brand’s mission and ideals with purpose and authenticity.
  • Purdue was ranked as the best value university in Indiana, No. 2 in the Big Ten, No. 6 among U.S. public universities, and No. 15 among all institutions nationwide in a 2023 list released by financial services advisor SmartAsset.

“The impressive performance of the past year is a testament to the persistent pursuit of excellence by our faculty, staff, students and alumni on a grand scale and touches every aspect of this dynamic, energetic university,” said Purdue President Mung Chiang.

During the year, Purdue achieved a top ranking among U.S. public universities and was named the ninth most recognized university in the world in the 2024-25 Global University Visibility (GUV) rankings., which were published on July 16. This effort is supported by:

  • Earned media saw 119,345 placements, up 26%. At the same time, social media impressions increased 5% to 160 million impressions, engagement exceeded 6 million, up 36%. Social media shares of Purdue-related activities increased 68% to 138,000.
  • Purdue’s podcast “This Is Purdue” saw listeners increase 76% to 2.2 million during the year and ranked No. 1 on Apple’s top educational podcast charts.
  • The university’s homepage, purdue.edu, recorded 15.8 million visitors, an increase of 8.6% year-over-year.

During the year, Purdue also signed nine new framework research agreements with industry, including one as part of South Korean company SK hynix’s landmark announcement this spring to invest nearly $4 billion to build an advanced packaging factory and an artificial intelligence semiconductor product R&D facility at Purdue Research Park.

In addition, Purdue was selected to play a major role in three national centers – Heartland BioWorks, Midwest Alliance for Clean Hydrogen and Silicon Crossroads Microelectronics Commons – that focus on ensuring the U.S. remains globally competitive in areas critical to national security. Purdue was also selected to lead seven national research centers, including the renewal of three existing centers.
