Purushothamudu Plot: A Test of Character and Love
Purushothamudu revolves around a young man, Rachit Ram (played by Raj Tarun), who returns to India after completing his studies in London. Upon his return, he is asked by his family to live as a common man for 100 days before he can take up the role of CEO in his father’s company.
This journey takes him to a village where he encounters numerous challenges and falls in love with Ammu, played by Hassini Sudhir. The film attempts to combine action, comedy and romance, but has been criticized for its weak screenplay and lack of coherence in storytelling.
The film, which also stars veteran actors like Prakash Raj, Ramya Krishna and Murali Sharma, was produced by Dr. Ramesh Tejawat and Prakash Tejawat under the banner of Shree Sridevi Productions. Gopi Sundar provided the music while cinematography was handled by PG Vinda. Despite these strong elements, the film’s portrayal of the farmers’ problems and the romantic subplot between the lead actors were felt to be too simplistic and too deep.

Purushothamudu’s theatrical release on July 26, 2024, opened to a lukewarm response. The film grossed only Rs 1.34 crore at the box office, way below expectations, and was quickly labelled a financial disaster. Critics pointed out that the film’s failure was partly due to Raj Tarun’s minimal involvement in promotional activities, a factor that likely contributed to its poor performance.

However, the film’s debut on Aha Video could give it a second chance to reach a wider audience. The streaming platform announced the release with enthusiasm, sharing a poster featuring Raj Tarun and inviting viewers to “experience the power of courage” starting August 29.
Despite its difficulties, Purushothamudu has received some positive feedback, with an IMDb rating of 8.1/10 from 2,100 users, suggesting that it resonated with a section of the audience. The film’s OTT release could help it find a more appreciative audience, especially among those who missed its theatrical release.
Adding to Raj Tarun’s current challenges is the poor performance of his follow-up film Thiragabadara Saami, which also failed to impress at the box office. Moreover, the actor is embroiled in personal controversies, including allegations from Lavanya, who claims that he cheated her with promises of marriage. These problems have only compounded the difficulties in his professional life.
