Question for Eric: Should I tell my husband that his new medication has given him breasts?

Dear Eric, How should I tell my husband that he has breasts? He is not a vain man and I suspect he does not look at himself in the mirror. He is taking many new medications that can lead to this condition.

Most of the time he is fully dressed, but it is summer and he may want to take his shirt off at some point to go swimming with friends. I am sure he would be embarrassed if he knew what he looked like.

I don’t want to make him feel insecure, and he might get angry at me for bringing this to his attention and making him feel insecure. I also fear that he might stop taking the medication he needs in response to this discovery.

– Restrained observation

Dear observation: Are the breasts on his back? I can only imagine this information being useful if he has new growths in a place he can’t see and isn’t familiar with. Otherwise, please leave him alone.

He may not be vain or particularly religious, but he is still a human being in a body and he probably showers and dresses himself.

So he’s conscious of his appearance. And if with that awareness he decides to take his shirt off during a day at the pool with people he feels comfortable around, then let him. My goodness, life can be so short of pleasures. If he’s not embarrassed, don’t give him a reason to be. Everyone’s body is their own business.
