When boarding a plane for a long-haul flight, most people are usually prepared.

They bring a book, maybe music or games or their favorite show on a laptop or tablet. But there are some, a select few, who follow a trend called “raw dogging” flights.

Now experts are warning that if these people are not careful, they could lose their lives through so-called “raw dogging.”

Experts claim that unwanted dogging during a flight can cause serious health problems

So what exactly is raw dogging on a flight?

Well, it’s exactly what you think.

Frequent flyers, usually men, board the plane with no book, nothing to watch or listen to on their smartphone, no Netflix or podcasts, and stare mindlessly at the map screen in front of them.

This is a clear sign that someone should probably be put on the FBI watch list.

But this new phenomenon is not only strange, it is also dangerous.

Nutritionist Toby King told travel website Inspire Ambitions that eating raw food during a flight could increase the risk of blood clots.

“This is one of the most dangerous trends I’ve seen on social media in a long time. And while it looks harmless and a bit fun on the surface, this could have deadly consequences. I would urge people to be sensible when traveling,” King said.

So why should it be more dangerous to survive a flight than to read a book or watch countless episodes of Brooklyn99?

“The risk of long-haul flights is that you run the risk of dehydration,” Dr Gill Jenkins recently told the BBC. “If you don’t move, you run the risk of deep vein thrombosis, which is made worse by dehydration. Not going to the toilet is a bit stupid. If you have to go to the toilet, you have to go to the toilet.”

The biggest problem seems to be not entertainment but poor nutrition.

“The low oxygen pressure on flights and the change in humidity mean that more water evaporates from our skin and lungs when we fly,” a travel expert told the Daily Mail. “It is therefore increasingly important to drink enough fluids and stay properly hydrated when flying.”
