Read a great review of Green Day Fenway from a 15-year-old fan

Green Day brought their savior trip to town, so I brought along my favorite concert correspondent to write a review of Green Day Fenway.

For Kade, this was the full circle: her first big rock show was the Hella Mega Tour with Green Day and Weezer at Fenway Park in the summer of 2021. This was their first major rock show and also their first Green Day Fenway review. You can read it here.

Since then I have commissioned her to Spoon in Providence, red hot chili peppers at Fenway Park, Smashing pumpkins at the Garden and Boston Calling 2023. They’re building quite a reputation! Take it away, Kade.

Review of Green Day Fenway: “Killer show!”

We reached Fenway Park shortly after The Linda Lindas ended (thanks, traffic) and immediately jumped into the merch line. After getting a t-shirt for me (thanks, mom!), we found our seats. And it was just in time for Rancid to enter the stage.

They were great. I only knew “Time Bomb” and “Ruby Soho” before, but I liked the whole set anyway. After Rancid we went down to the lawn to get a better view of Smashing pumpkins. I’ve seen it before (you should read my review if I wrote one; I can’t remember).

Editor’s note: They did; the link to it is above and here.

The Pumpkins were just as great, if not better, this time! It was so cool to see them up close and I freaked out when they played “Beguiled.” Definitely a great performance. And now for the main event: Green Day.

Green Day Fenway review: Great fun

Seeing Green Day at Fenway was a pretty big deal for me, because seeing them at Fenway, for Hella Mega Tour 2021 was the first real concert I ever attended. To be honest, I was a bit emotional when they came on stage because it was a bit like going back in time.

But enough of that.

The show was great! They had the giant inflatable airplane from the cover of Dookie (so cool!), along with stunning backgrounds that were perfect, blown-up replicas of their album covers.

Listening to them play (almost) all of my favorite songs was one thing, but Billie Joe’s energy was truly something else. He is a fantastic artist and his charisma is infectious. I’m so happy to be able to see them a second time!

All in all, everyone was fantastic and I had a great time. Simply put, I love live music!
