Reading group for teachers in fall 2024 to discuss admission as a SoTL fellow

The Teaching Academy and the Center for Instructional Excellence (CIE) invite teachers to join Purdue Faculty Teaching and Learning Groups this semester. These reading groups bring together teachers from Indianapolis and West Lafayette in small groups to discuss how current books on instruction and teaching and learning can inform their work.

Reading group for teachers in fall 2024 to discuss admission as a SoTL fellow

In the fall semester, participants read Become a SoTL fellow, edited by Janice Miller-Young and Nancy Chick. This book explores the many ways to integrate the science of teaching and learning into your teaching and research, and to make SoTL a central part of your academic identity and career. The book will be of interest to those just beginning to think about the science of teaching and learning, as well as those who have been involved for decades and are interested in expanding their networks and skills. The book is available as an open access PDF from Elon University Press, and print copies are available for those who prefer.

Participants will read the book in three sessions over the course of the semester to discuss the ideas, theories, and applications for this and future semesters. The sessions will be virtual, bringing together participants from Indianapolis and West Lafayette. There are two options:

  • Thursdays, 10-11:30 a.m. ET: September 26, October 24, and November 21
  • Fridays, 12:00–1:30 p.m. ET: September 27, October 25, and November 22

Faculty members who wish to participate in fall 2024 should complete a Online questionnaire by Friday, August 30th, with information about yourself and your availability.

Those who cannot make it this semester but are interested in faculty reading and learning communities or have suggestions for future books/topics should contact Dan Guberman at [email protected].
