Real Salt Lake transfers Andrés Gómez to Stade Rennais

TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Transfer

The 21-year-old Colombian international is leaving the club for a transfer fee reportedly estimated at $11 million, which could rise to up to $13 million with additional payments.

If the incentives are right, the transfer package will be one of the ten largest outbound deals in MLS history.

“We wish Andrés all the best, he has grown a lot on and off the pitch in the 18 months he has spent here,” said RSL football boss Kurt Schmid in a statement.

“It’s hard to let young talent go, but the global market offers clubs and individuals numerous opportunities for change and growth. Andrés has represented both himself and RSL every day here as an aspiring young professional and we believe we have given him a foundation as he adjusts to both European football and his career with the Colombian national team.”

RSL acquired Gómez in January 2023 from Colombian club Millonarios FC for a then club-record transfer fee. He was signed through the league’s U22 initiative.

After a solid debut season, Gómez reached a new level in 2024. His 22 goal contributions (13 T/9 A) are the second most at RSL and harmonize perfectly with Diego Luna and the Golden Boot, which was presented to him by Audi leader Cristian Arango.

Overall, Gómez leaves the RSL with 14 goals/15 assists in 53 league games. He also scored a goal in two appearances for Colombia.

“I want to send a special message to all Real Salt Lake fans – I thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you have given me over the last year and a half here in Utah,” said Gómez. “God bless you all, I will always carry you in my heart.”
