Residents without power after fiery car crash – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

In a neighborhood in Grand Prairie, the effects of a fire accident are still being felt that destroyed two cars – and in which, according to witnesses, two people apparently died.

It happened after 8 p.m. Saturday near 1500 South Belt Line Road.

A video taken by witnesses at the scene showed the consequences of the collision: one car overturned and burst into flames, the front of another car was torn to pieces by the force of the impact.

“It was the craziest day of my life,” said Ashik Maharzan.

The accident occurred on a high-speed section of Belt Line Road in Grand Prairie, a four-lane road between I-20 and I-30.

Shortly before the crash, Maharzan was working at the Valero station, which was to become the scene of the accident.

“I heard a loud bang coming from there, and when I looked, I saw two people flying out of the window,” Maharzan said.

Maharzan told NBC 5 that he ran outside and saw two apparently dead victims lying motionless in the street.

He said he wanted to run and help immediately, but the heat of the fire was too strong.

“There was just an explosion. I couldn’t even go near the fire, it was so big,” said Maharzan. “People were screaming and crying, and I saw the two bodies lying there.”

The flames spread to the wires hanging from power poles above the wreckage.

While crews worked to repair the damage on Sunday, residents said their internet was expected to be offline for the next two days.

Some will feel the emotional strain of the accident for a long time.

“I couldn’t sleep for two or three hours, I couldn’t sleep,” Maharzan said. “I thought about the fire for several hours.”

NBC 5 reached out to Grand Prairie police to learn what led up to the crash and for information on the victims. Investigators said they are working to get us an answer.
