Review by James Attias

Detective comics #1088 is a concentrated load of conclusions that lead to the grand finale of this run.

Haha, chaos

If I didn’t already know that the next edition of this title would tell a very different story, the introduction to this issue would have me thinking that the Joker’s daughter – who looks better than ever despite wearing a skin mask for a face – would be the next villain to put the Bat to the test. We’re still in the thick of Orgham madness, we’ve now got good guys, bad guys, and everyone in between involved. This story has gone off the rails.
This issue itself felt like it was written by at least four different people. We have the beginning – scary, interesting and out of nowhere, we have the scary next few pages straight out of City Of Madness, and then there’s a bit of villain vs. villain action. None of it seemed to fit together. But I enjoyed reading it. Let’s hope some of the art, some of the writing and some of that action stays with us until the finale. But who knows…

Golden Child

The backstory in this issue was entertaining, revolving around Talia Al Ghul and a new way of resurrecting people. Mainly around Arzen Orgham, which sounds like a terrible insult of a name. He was murdered by his own mother many issues ago in this series and seems different from the rest of the Orgham family, but if I’m being honest with you, dear readers, I can’t imagine him or any of the newly introduced characters even making it past this series… What do you all think?

Diploma

Detective comics #1088 was a lot to take in, but now that I’ve had a good dose of conclusions, I’d like to wash this story down with a small cup of espresso. Finally: the bill, please!
