RaLeno 15W RGB streaming lightErgonomics and workmanship quality

The lamp is made of plastic and feels well made. The diffuser, buttons and dial feel solid and do not wobble.

The base is heavy, which is good because the pole extends to 27.5 inches, a useful height. The rubber grip feels good and allows you to tighten it securely.

RaLeno 15W RGB streaming light — In the field

Since the panel has an illuminated LCD back, setting it up is relatively easy even in the dark. However, you have to remember the functions of the buttons because they are not illuminated.

Buttons

  • On/Off symbol: You can turn the light on or off remotely.
  • CH/GR: This is the Channel/Group button. The remote allows you to control multiple lights by assigning them to the same channel and group.
  • FN: This is the function key. It allows you to switch between functions. It allows you to adjust various parameters, including brightness, among others.
  • MODE: This allows you to switch between CCT, HSI and scene lighting.

You can’t really make out the label or icon unless the back of the light is well lit. But since there are only four buttons, it’s easy to quickly figure out what’s going on. And in reality, there are probably only three since you probably won’t be changing channels or groups all the time anyway. And the other switch is a power button. Still, it would be nice to have something more visible.

Three lighting functions

  • CCT (Correlated Color Temperature) allows you to control the type of white. Since the range is quite wide (2500-8500K), you can set a warm or cool white depending on your preference. This is good for product photography, Zoom meetings, or creating video content.
  • HSI (Hue, Saturation, Intensity) allows you to change the color from 0-360. And as the name suggests, it also allows you to control the saturation of that color as well as the intensity (brightness).
  • There are several scene Effects. These include strobe, police light, broken bulb (a sort of random flickering and dimming), TV, candle, and RGB color cycle (this cycles through different colors and works well as a background light when creating video content).

The manufacturer states in the user manual that the CRI is at least 95. CRI stands for Color Rendering Index and indicates how a light reproduces colors. The maximum score is 100. Higher values above 90 preserve details and appear richer and more vibrant. Lower values can appear increasingly washed out and details are missing.

Controlling the light via the remote control

All parameters worked perfectly whether the remote was attached to the back of the light or about 15 meters away. This was even true with two closed doors and two walls between the light and the remote. The dial feels a bit cheap, but it doesn’t wobble and worked perfectly.

I love that the remote is magnetic and can easily be attached to the back of the lamp for charging or storage. Great design.

I haven’t been able to test this since I only have one lamp, but I noticed that the remote has forty channels. FORTY.

Installation of the lamp

The stand can be used with or without the 360-degree ball head, which is essentially a ball head. If that’s not enough, the kit also comes with a hot shoe that allows you to mount the light on the camera.
