Straight from the pages of critically acclaimed comics into your TV nightmares, SYFY evokes Revivala new live-action horror series that will cast a dark, supernatural shadow over your safest assumptions about the safety and tranquility of quiet life in rural America.
Announced earlier this year as a brand new SYFY Original series, Revival is based on the Harvey Award-nominated comic of the same name from the 2010s by author Tim Seeley and artist Mike Norton. The original publisher Image Comics describes Revival as a “beautiful ‘farm noir’ that puts a new twist on the zombie genre,” a huge comic hint that clues you in to the dark themes that will be explored in the upcoming SYFY Series.
what is Revival on SYFY about what?
Part of the dark fascination of Revivalis the captivating way it weaves a constant thread of mystery into its supernatural, horror-infused story. The series is led by small-town cop Dana Cypress – a single mother from Wisconsin grieving the loss of her recently deceased sister – Revival dares to bring the dead back to life and then let them walk among the living without being seen: Even in their altered state, the “reanimated” look and behave exactly as they once were, as the makers tease.

For one day, the dead came to life in rural central Wisconsin. Now Officer Dana Cypress must deal with media scrutiny, religious zealots, and the government quarantine that comes with it. In a town where the living must learn to deal with the supposedly dead, Officer Cypress must solve a brutal murder, and everyone, living or undead, is a suspect. A beautiful “farm noir” that puts a new twist on the zombie genre.
Equally important to Revival’s central mystery is Dana’s dead sister Em, a local who recently left and won’t stay dead for long. Was Em murdered? So it seems—and that’s a mystery in itself—but to solve Em’s crime, Dana must uncover the hidden connections between her sister’s fate and the listless supernatural phenomenon that has awakened the rest of the town’s dead from their not-so-eternal Midwestern slumber.
The Revival Cast: Who will star in SYFY’s new series?
The undead do not tell stories, and so far there is no early casting information about who the SYFY The series could star Dana, Em, or any of the other characters (living or not) that will populate their troubled town. However, the series itself comes from Blue Ice Pictures, the same production company behind SYFY‘s own SurrealEstate.
Revival was released as a comic in the summer of 2012 and almost immediately caused a stir with television and film studios wanting to adapt his story for the screen. The comic itself, along with creators Seeley, Norton and cover artist Jenny Frison, received a lot of recognition as Revival received three nominations for the Harvey Awards (which annually recognize excellence in comedy).
When will Revival Debut on SYFY?
Just like with the casting of the series, the creators have so far kept a morbid silence about when exactly Revival will make it scary SYFY Premiere. The series was announced in May 2024, along with a planned premiere sometime in 2025, meaning it probably won’t be long before the floodgates are wide open for more news on the cast, creativity, and schedule.
