Not content with just pursing her lips with a bit of red lipstick for Insta pictures, Rihanna opted for a more unusual shade for her New York Fashion Week party.
Wearing a sleeveless, low-cut white panne velvet dress by Ellergy that looked like it came straight out of the ’90s, the singer welcomed a host of famous guests to New York’s EDITION Hotel on Thursday night.

The star appeared to have taken off her shoes for the occasion, worn her hair up, and added a touch of glamour with a sparkly necklace and black leather choker, so the blue lipstick actually worked out quite well.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West also attended the event, hinting that they are in NYC to appear in many of the season’s shows. Kim revealed on Instagram that she was dressed head-to-toe in Givenchy and Yeezy (her husband’s clothing line), showing just a hint of leg in over-the-knee boots – which kept slipping down.
The outfit’s empire waist covered her stomach nicely and her hair fell in loose waves around her shoulders.

Alexa Chung was also at the event, stopping by after the opening of Refinery 29’s ’29 Rooms’ and rivaling Rihanna in another velvet dress. The British socialite appeared in a black midi dress, complete with a high necklace and a transparent decorative panel on the chest.
But unlike RiRi, Alexa chose a red lipstick – not a blue one.

Models Coco Rocha, Lily Donaldson and Joan Smalls were also in attendance, as were Gigi Hadid and her boyfriend Joe Jonas.
Gigi looked stunning in a red satin dress with sheer panels from Tommy Hilfiger’s AW15 collection. The 20-year-old model wore her hair off her face in an updo that was slicked back. Red lipstick and natural eye makeup completed her look.
