Romulus – First reactions from the premiere

Fede Álvarez’s highly anticipated Alien: Romulus was finally released to the public on Monday evening after 20th Century Studios’ film had its world premiere in Los Angeles, and the first reactions were already visible on social media.

The eighth part of the long-standing Foreigner Franchise takes place between the events of Ridley Scott’s 1979 Foreigner and James Cameron’s 1986 sequel Aliens. Romulus follows young colonists who stumble upon an abandoned space station and encounter the terror of the alien creature that is the franchise’s all-time star. The film stars Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced and Spike Fearn.

The film was produced by Scott, Michael Pruss and Walter Hill.

Romulus was originally intended as a Hulu release in the style of Dan Trachtenberg’s highly acclaimed Predator Prehistory, prey (2022), but the studio wisely switched to feature films when filming began. “As soon as we started filming, the studio said, ‘Fuck it, we’re going to go to the movies with it,'” Álvarez said The Hollywood Reporter in a detailed interview in March.

Romulus will be in theaters on August 16th.

Although full reviews for Romulus Coming out Wednesday, read on for a taste of early reactions to the film following its premiere Monday night.
