If first impressions are to be believed, this could be the start of something special for Bo Nix.
The Denver Broncos’ 12th overall pick entered Sunday’s preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts and helped his team score on four of the five possessions in which he was involved.
The former Oregon Duck completed 15 of 21 passes for 125 yards and scored a touchdown with 4:51 left in the second quarter on a short pass to Marvin Mims Jr.
The University of Oregon product entered the game late in the first quarter, replacing starter Jarrett Stidham with 3:11 left in the opening quarter.
“Overall, it was a good feeling to go out there and throw some passes … just go out there and compete,” Nix said, according to ESPN.
On his first drive, the rookie QB moved the Broncos 45 yards in 11 plays, including a fumble snap and a 22-yard pass to Courtland Sutton.
The touchdown pass to Mims came on Nix’s second drive, when he marched 56 yards down the field.
The performance has certainly given rise to a lot of talk when it comes to Nix vying for a starting spot in the Mile High City.
Head coach Sean Payton praised all three of his quarterbacks after the victory over Indy β former Jet Zach Wilson also played.
“All three of them have done a good job,” Payton said. “You get a little more information in certain situations. … I’ll go beyond the quarterbacks, you get a little more insight on all of those guys.”
Nix also demonstrated his agility and ran for 17 yards during the game.
βItβs good to train and a nice thing to have,β Nix said of his mobility.
Payton had previously told reporters that Nix would start next Sunday against the Green Bay Packers.
