Rumor: Switch 2 gets Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Due to these unusual circumstances, the Switch 2 could receive many current generation games.

There’s an interesting new rumor that paints an impressive picture of the Switch 2’s third-party gaming support.

Third-party support has been a major Achilles heel for Nintendo in general. While the company had a strong presence in the original NES/Famicom, the terms under which third-party developers could develop games for the platform made the company and its then-president Hiroshi Yamauchi unpopular. Even before the PlayStation came along and poached those third-party developers, many of those companies wanted to move away, and some responded by moving to Sega, NEC, etc.

With the launch of the Nintendo Switch in 2017, major gaming companies like Take Two Interactive, Blizzard, and even Japanese competitors like Bandai Namco could stop supporting the console. Of course, many of these companies later regretted this decision and re-entered the platform as Nintendo made the hybrid platform the biggest success the industry has ever seen.

The situation has now reversed as these third-party retailers do not want to miss the launch of the Switch 2. We reported on a corresponding rumor that suddenly appeared earlier this month. Just last week, another rumor surfaced that most of the newer Assassin’s Creed Games would find their way to the Switch 2, including the latest title in the series, Assassin’s Creed Shadow.

And that brings us to today. As shared by user Joseki100 on the GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit, a ResetERA user claimed that they have been working on such a Switch 2 launch game, which is also a major third-party title.

ResetERA user TomPennySteeze posted the following in the forum:

“Hmmmm, I never signed any papers or E-NDAs, all I heard in early 2023 was that the Switch 2 would be released in 2025 as I had the opportunity to port a game to it for my next project.

I had just read the sequel to said game, so that should tell you what kind of library is being prepared for this thing, although to be honest it was a big franchise and a big name that excited casual/non-gamers.

I think Nintendo wants to give a big buffer of time for third-party/AAA ports to build up to the release date.”

Joseki100 concluded that the game they believe fits this description is actually Respawn’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

Originally released in 2019 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is a very believable title coming to Switch 2. Although the game received ports for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Electronic Arts and Respawn may have simply been working on bringing the PlayStation 4/Xbox One version of the game to Switch 2. If the Switch 2 rumors are true, they may have created this port with some optimizations for handheld and docked mode.

It would be interesting if Respawn would also work on a sequel, Star Wars Jedi: Survivoris also set to release on the Switch 2. The game was released for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S last year and will be backported to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One next month. One could say that this move does not bode well for the current generation of consoles. However, for the Switch 2, it is an opportunity to get even more current generation games than the Switch.

We would like to point out that the fact that this game is being ported does not mean that the rumor is credible. But if Switch 2 is what we expect and is successful, EA may well decide to make these ports to fulfill this prophecy if it wasn’t actually true the first time around.
