Russia claims the US is planning a color revolution in Georgia

The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) has accused the United States of preparing a color revolution in Georgia to prevent a victory by the ruling Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia party in the upcoming parliamentary elections on October 26.

According to the SVR, the White House is dissatisfied with the political situation in Georgia and is allegedly planning a “color revolution” in Tbilisi, reports News.Az, citing Russian media.

The SVR claims that this plan includes presenting “evidence of electoral fraud,” refusing to recognize the election results, and demanding a change of government. The intelligence agency also suggests that it is designed to provoke law enforcement into violently suppressing protests, while the United States prepares a “ruthless” political and economic response to any excessive use of force by Georgian authorities.

The SVR further claims that pro-Western NGOs are being mobilized in Georgia to closely monitor the electoral process and document alleged abuse of administrative resources. In addition, Washington is reportedly providing additional funding to local opposition youth groups expected to lead post-election protests.
