Safety alert for Vogtle power plant announced Tuesday, Georgia Power says

Georgia Power announced that a warning was issued at the Vogtle plant in Waynesboro on Tuesday.

An “alarm” signals that an event has occurred that could cause safety concerns, according to a press release from Georgia Power.

“Our top priority is the safety and health of the public and our employees,” said John Weissinger, vice president of Vogtle 1 and 2 sites. “We will provide additional details as they become available and we will continue to do so until this situation is safely resolved.”

Georgia Power said there was no threat to the public as of Tuesday afternoon. The company advises the public to monitor radio and television for the latest information.
