Samuel Pfau sets the pace for the Granville Blue Aces boys golf team

Samuel Pfau remained in top form on Friday, continuing the Granville boys golf team’s early-season surge.

Pfau shot a 71 in Chapel Hill to earn second place at the Chapel Hill Invitational in Mount Vernon. Pfau helped Granville to a total of 317, earning a seventh-place finish with Newark Catholic.

Pfau had already shot a 72 on Thursday at EagleSticks to lead Granville to a team victory at the Circle K Invitational. Pfau’s round on Thursday was good enough for third place, as the Blue Aces shot a total of 309.

Chase Holtzapple shot 77 and Alex Organ shot 78 for Granville on Thursday. Organ and Brogan Burgett each shot 81 on Friday.

Brogan Sullivan led NC on Friday with a 76. Carter Hahn added a 78 and Bobby Kieber a 79.

Archibald sets the pace for Johnnies

Braeden Archibald shot a 72 at Virtues on Wednesday to help Johnstown win the team championship at the Licking Valley Invitational as the Johnnies continued their strong start to the season.

GIRLS GOLF

Gieseler goes deep

Jacqueline Gieseler scored a personal best of 80 at Vista View and took third place individually for Licking Valley at the Tri-Valley Lady Dawg Invitational.

Elizabeth Korns scored a personal best of 97 points for the Panthers, who finished fifth with 394 points. Lily Reich led Licking Heights with 99 points.

Watkins finishes second

At the Watkins Memorial at Blacklick Woods, four players scored in the 80s and 90s for a total of 360, placing second in the AM wave of the Lady Panther Invitational at Pickerington North.

Bailey Moyer led the Warriors with 86, followed by Jacy Severance with 88, Hailey Smith 91 and Ella Yost 95.

Newark Catholic’s Caylee Lattimer shot 80 to place sixth, and her teammate Samantha Speakman followed with 83.

On Thursday, Lattimer shot a 75 at the Cumberland Trail to place fifth in the Watkins Memorial Invitational.

Following were Lauren Griffith of Lakewood with an 81 among Licking County competitors, Ceci Dodd of Granville with an 85 and Molly Montgomery with an 86, Spearman of NC with an 87, Emery Lingo of Lakewood with a 90 and Moyer and Smith of Watkins and Leah Moberg of NC with 93 each.
