The highly anticipated fantasy series The Rings of Power Season 2 is just around the corner — Release on August 29, 2024The new season will introduce some prominent monsters, with the appearance of the Ents and Damrod. The most exciting addition to this mix will be the giant spider Kankrawhich apparently underwent a rather complicated design upgrade.
Kankra is an iconic J.R.R. Tolkien Character and descendant of the legendary arachnid Ungoliant. Maxim Baldry, who plays Islidur, GamesRadar told San Diego Comic-Con, The spider is expected to be as scary as ever in the upcoming season. The actor explained that there were many expectations that had to be met regarding Shelob’s appearance and that the process during filming was also complex. TThe actor was quite surprised at how things would turn out when he explained a behind-the-scenes detail with the following words:
“When we were filming, there was a rugby ball, two guys in morphsuits and some sticks, and I just thought, ‘Oh God, how is this going to turn out?'”
Baldry further explained how Kankra has a strong personality and teased the back and forth between his character Islidur and Shelob in the upcoming season. The scene, which is also seen in the trailers, shows Islidur in the spider cave, and when she comes face to face with Shelob, the spider looks fierce. Baldry described it as a beautiful moment while describing the monstrous form Shelob was given.
In season 2 of “The Rings of Power,” Islidur becomes an important part of the plot
In the same interview, Baldry also told how his character is attributed extensive storylines that cement him as an integral part of the series. He explains how Islidur, abandoned by his entire family and nation as he fights for survival, will play a major role in The Rings of Power Season 2.
Islidur will also fight against many monsters in the second part. Baldry also mentioned that he particularly enjoyed portraying his character more physically. Although most of the talk about the season was about darkness and blood, the actor also revealed a more lighthearted detail: Islidur will fall in love for the first time in the coming season.
The implied love interest will most likely be Estrid, played by Nia Towle. The Rings of Power Season 2 a seismic relationship could arise between Islidur and Estrid and The set photos also showed the duo’s intimate atmosphere.
The Rings of Power Season 2 will be released on August 29 with a premiere of three episodes on Prime Video. The previous season of the series can be streamed on the same platform.
