SEC announces 2024-25 men’s basketball schedule

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Southeastern Conference announced the league schedule for the upcoming 2024-25 men’s basketball season on Tuesday afternoon.

The Volunteers, coming off arguably the best season in program history, will play 18 conference games between January 4 and March 8, with both the opening and finals taking place on their home court at Food City Center. There are less than 150 season tickets left and they can be purchased HERE.

“The SEC is the leading basketball conference in the country. It is a strong league with talented and experienced players and top-class coaches,” said Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes said. “All 18 games will be a challenge that we are fully committed to. We look forward to hearing our fans at the Food City Center as we host some of the best teams in the country throughout the conference play.”

Tennessee, the defending SEC regular season champions, begins its league play at home against Arkansas on Jan. 4. The team then travels to Gainesville, Florida, to play its first road game of the year in Florida on Jan. 7-8.

The Volunteers next visit Austin, Texas, where they will play their first SEC matchup against new conference member Texas on Jan. 11. The two teams met in the NCAA tournament last year, with Tennessee recording a 62-58 victory to reach the Sweet 16 for the second consecutive year.

Barnes, now in his 10th year at Rocky Top, and the Volunteers will then return home for a game against Georgia on Jan. 14-15 before traveling down I-40 to face Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tennessee on Jan. 18.

Tennessee next hosts Mississippi State in Knoxville for a game on Jan. 21 and then travels to Auburn, Alabama, where it plays at Auburn on Jan. 25. The Volunteers close out the month with a home game on Jan. 28 against Kentucky.

In the second of three consecutive SEC home games – the only game in a row with two consecutive home games – Tennessee will face Florida on February 1. The home series will conclude with a game against Missouri on January 4/5.

The Volunteers will face Oklahoma, the SEC’s other new member, on February 8 in Norman, Oklahoma. They will then travel to Lexington, Kentucky, on February 11-12 to face Kentucky for the second time in two weeks.

Next up for Barnes’ team is a meeting with Vanderbilt at Food City Center on Feb. 15, followed by a weekday off.

Tennessee then has its third and final consecutive road trip, first on February 22 against Texas A&M in Bryan-College Station, Texas, and then on February 24-25 against LSU in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

To begin the final month of the regular season, the Volunteers will play Alabama on March 1. Their final SEC road game is scheduled for March 4-5 at Ole Miss in Oxford, Mississippi.

Tennessee will finish the 2024-25 regular season on March 8 against South Carolina at Food City Center. The program will honor its six-member graduating class before the game begins.

The Volunteers return two of their top five scorers, senior guards Jordan Gainey And Zakai Zeiglerfrom a team in the 2023-24 season that went 27-9 (14-4 SEC) and secured the second Elite Eight berth in program history.

Tennessee also brings back senior guard Jahmai Mashackwho participated in all 36 competitions last year, together with second-year students Cameron Carr (guard), JP Star (forward) and Cade Phillips (Forward). The team also brings five newcomers, including a quartet of experienced transfers and a top-75 rookie.
