See where Team USA stands on the leaderboard on Day 14 – NBC New York

The Paris Olympics are coming to an end, but there is still plenty of action to be had!

For a complete look at all the events each day, we have a full breakdown of all the broadcasts, as well as details on where and how to watch. Every Olympic event will be streamed live on Peacock.

In terms of medal count, the United States was the favorite to win the most medals before the Games, and that was evident right from the start, as they led the medal count.

However, China still has a chance to win more gold medals than the Americans. China held its gold medal lead for most of the first week, but the U.S. caught up early in the second week of play and temporarily held the lead. But by the final weekend of competition, that lead was gone.

So which country leads the medal standings after 134 hours of competition? Here’s a look at the Olympic medal tally. (And keep scrolling to see some of the best moments for Team USA from Friday.)

Here is the complete leaderboardlast updated on August 9th at 7pm. ET

Here is a breakdown of the competitions in which the US team won medals and the athletes involved:

The last Summer Olympics at which the United States did not top the gold medal table was in Beijing in 2008. As host nation, countries can always claim a medal haul, and France is expected to nearly triple the number of gold medals it won in Tokyo.

Team USA Highlights: Day 14

SHA’CARRI SHINES AGAIN

A star-studded US quartet consisting of Sha’Carri Richardson, Gabby Thomas, Melissa Jefferson and Twanisha “Teetee” Terry sprinted to gold in the women’s 4×100-meter relay.

In rainy weather at the Stade de France, the Americans achieved a time of 41.78 seconds, winning their first gold medal since the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, ahead of second-placed Great Britain (41.85).

Terry, who finished second, had the best leg among Americans with a time of 9.98, followed by closer Richardson, who gave a viral glimpse of the competition before crossing the finish line in 10.09.

HISTORY OF WEIGHTLIFTING

Olivia Reeves was the first American weightlifter to win an Olympic title in 24 years.

In the women’s 71 kg (156 pounds) final, Reeves set an Olympic record with a snatch of 117 kg. She then cleaned and jerked 145 kg for a total score of 262 kg, her first Olympic medal, beating second-place finisher Mari Leivis Sánchez of Colombia (257 kg).

WOMEN GET TO THE FINAL WITHOUT ANY CARE

The U.S. women’s basketball team was on the verge of its eighth consecutive Olympic title by defeating Australia 85-64 in the semifinals.

Reigning WNBA MVP Breanna Stewart was the leading player among four Americans who scored in double figures with 16 points, six rebounds and five assists. Two-time WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson also impressed with 10 points, eight rebounds, four blocks and two steals.

Like the U.S. men’s team, the women’s team will face host nation France in the gold medal game scheduled for Sunday. France has never won Olympic gold in men’s or women’s basketball.

A’ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart of the US team shared their excitement for the women’s basketball final at the Paris Games, looking for their eighth consecutive Olympic gold medal.
