CNN’s Jake Tapper asked Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) on Sunday about Democrats’ efforts to brand Vice President Harris’s candidacy as a “new chapter” even though she is the incumbent vice president.

“The Democrats have controlled the White House for 12 of the last 16 years. How can the Democrats talk about a new chapter, a new chapter? You are the ones writing the book,” Tapper said during his interview with Booker.

The CNN report quoted Harris as saying during her speech to the DNC that Americans have a chance to “find a new way forward.” Harris’ running mate, Governor Tim Walz, also said he was “ready to close the chapter with these guys,” referring to the Republican Party. Former President Obama said during his speech to the DNC that America is “ready for a new chapter” and a “better story.”

“You know that’s not true, Jake, because you know politics as well as I do. Right now we’re seeing MAGA Republicans in Congress killing all kinds of pragmatic measures that we need to pass on the most contentious issue,” Booker responded, referring to the border bill that was opposed by Republican members of Congress.

35 DAYS: Kamala Harris has not held a press conference since being named the presumptive Democratic nominee.

“To say that MAGA Republicans are not continuing to undermine common sense, pragmatic, reasonable politics is simply false. And I know that this election can finally kill that branch of the Republican Party in a way that I think will help pragmatic Republicans come back,” Booker continued.

Booker said he could not stand “tribalism” and praised the Republicans who spoke at the DNC.

“It’s basically a binary choice: Are we going to continue Donald Trump’s policies of slander and fear, denigration and humiliation, or are we going to start a new chapter in America where we come together again, meet in the middle and show that we are capable of compromise and can actually achieve great things as a nation,” Booker said.

CNN’s Scott Jennings claimed on Tuesday that Harris is campaigning for change, but at the same time is supposedly working to solve the current problems in the White House.

“For all the talk about divisions and problems in the country and that people are suffering, the Democrats have largely controlled the country … and somehow it’s still all (former President) Trump’s fault, and somehow she wasn’t at the center of it,” Jennings said.

“So for me that’s still the glaring hole in this campaign that hasn’t been resolved at this congress. How do you explain that all these problems should be solved by the person who has been there for 3.5 years and should already be working on solving them?” he added.

The political commentator’s criticism came amid a choir of enthusiasm from liberal commentators on the network who praised the speeches given by former President Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama that evening.
