Six people die in Russia’s Belgorod region, three Reuters journalists injured in attack on Ukrainian hotel — Novaya Gazeta Europe

Six people were killed overnight in Russia’s southwestern Belgorod region when Ukrainian forces launched drone strikes and shelled several towns and villages near the Ukrainian border, Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on Telegram on Sunday.

Gladkov described the night as a “difficult night for the entire region.” He wrote that the entire Rakityansky district came under fire overnight and that five people were killed in the town of Rakitnoye.

Gladkov added that there were also 12 injured and nine of them were hospitalized, including a 16-year-old girl who, according to Gladkov, underwent surgery at a regional children’s hospital but is still in intensive care.

Later Sunday morning, Gladkov also said that two villages in the Belgorod region had been targeted by Ukrainian drone strikes and that a civilian had been killed in the village of Solovyovka.

At least three Reuters journalists were injured in a Russian missile attack on a hotel in the Ukrainian-controlled city of Kramatorsk in the Donetsk region, the Ukrainian service of Radio Liberty reported on Sunday.

The two-story Sapphire Hotel, where a six-person Reuters team was staying, was partially destroyed in an attack with a Russian Iskander missile. A journalist is believed to be trapped under the rubble, the Ukrainian service of Radio Liberty reported. Efforts to reach the trapped reporter had to be interrupted several times during the night due to renewed Russian shelling of the city.

“One of our colleagues is missing, while two others were taken to hospital for treatment,” the agency said, adding that the three other members of the team were missing. “We are urgently seeking more information, cooperating with the authorities in Kramatorsk and supporting our colleagues and their families. We will provide an update as soon as we have more information,” Reuters said in a statement.

Three civilians were killed and six others injured in the Russian shelling of the city of Kherson in the Ukrainian region of Kherson overnight, the Ukrainian National Police said on Sunday. A one-year-old boy and two elderly people were also among the injured.
