Sony acquires new script from “Kraven the Hunter” director JC Chandor

EXCLUSIVE: Directed by Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the lead role of Spider Man spin off Kraven the HunterJC Chandor has signed a deal with Sony Pictures to direct a new, untitled contemporary drama he wrote. It could be his next directorial gig. This comes after Sony saw Chandor’s latest cut, which led to a delay to the December 13 release date. The new trailer for Kraven bows briefly.

The new film is a drama that is reminiscent of his early films Margin Call, an extremely violent year And Triple limitabout the polemics of capitalism. I heard that this is a contemporary thriller about the investigation of a death in a wealthy dynasty. Do you think Consequence with a Erin Brockovich feel.

Kraven Taylor-Johnson plays the son of a ruthless Russian mobster (Russell Crowe). He is an incredibly efficient hunter who has a complicated and antagonistic relationship with his father. Originally set for an October 6, 2023 release, the film was pushed back to the upcoming Labor Day weekend on August 30, before being pushed back again to hit theaters as an R-rated Christmas corridor counter-program film on December 13. The film stars Alessandro Nivola as Spidey nemesis The Rhino and Fred Hechinger as The Chameleon, and Ariana DeBose plays Marvel character Calypso. The delays allowed Chandor to sharpen the characters and tighten the plot, as well as some strategic reshoots that were effective. After a misfire with Madam Web, The PES leadership is optimistic that Kraven will be more in line with the Poison Movies.

I contacted Chandor and he responded via text with a confirmation: “I’m extremely proud of the work we all did together on Kraven and when the film finally gets a chance to be seen, I think it will surprise a lot of people. What’s next for me is, as always, in the hands of the film gods.”

Chandor and SPE’s Tom Rothman and Sanford Panitch got along well and made the most of the extra time to refine the film. I hear Chandor has finished his first draft and the cast is already set, so this could all be moving into the fast lane.

Chandor is represented by CAA and attorney Andrew Hurwitz.
