Southwest Airlines employee admits stealing flight vouchers worth nearly ,000

Rich Thomaselli

That’s a lot of flight vouchers.

A Southwest Airlines employee is said to have stolen flight vouchers worth almost $80,000 within two months last year.

Brooklyn Jones was accused of stealing the vouchers at St. Louis Lambert International Airport and selling them for cash.

The incidents apparently occurred between August 1, 2023, and September of that year, and were uncovered by an internal Southwest investigation. When confronted, Jones presented more than 100 vouchers worth over $36,000 in his airport locker. He later told police he had counterfeited $79,000 worth of vouchers.

Jones said he acted alone and that to his knowledge no one else at the airport had issued fake vouchers. He issued the vouchers in the names of previous passengers.

A Southwest Airlines spokesman confirmed Jones’ arrest but had no further comment.

He is scheduled to appear in court on September 16.

This is certainly not the first time that an airline employee has been accused of abusing his position.
